NYCPPNEWS recently attended the opening of Encore New York’s new facilities at 435 Hudson St. While the name might not be immediately recognized by those in the New York production community, as part of the Deluxe Entertainment Services Group company, Hollywood-based Encore’s VFX division is a recognized player in weekly dramatic and long-form television (Fox’s House and Glee, ABC’s Castle, CBS’ NCIS). Current Encore New York credits include HBO’s Treme, CBS’ Blue Bloods and upcoming NYC 22. Film credits include “The Hurt Locker” and “Zombieland.”
The company has headed East to catch some of the growing market for television post in New York. As a name brand in TV post for the Burbank crowd, Encore also has taken charge of Deluxe’s existing TV work from its current NY operations.
Local tax incentives played a part in the decision to invest in the move to New York as well as to build an accomplished effects division, according to comments from Bill Romeo, Encore’s senior VP of TV. “The New York facility has a talented team in place,” Romeo said in a prepared statement. “Collectively we provide the most robust post-production and visual effects offering for television in the industry.”
NYCPPNEWS will offer a more in-depth look at Encore New York in the future, including its innovative offerings such as DiTV (watch Jennifer Tellefsen’s comments for more on that). Until then, check out our videos to catch an idea of why a top player in Hollywood’s TV post market came to set up shop in New York.
