A report from Film L.A. – that’s the nonprofit Los Angeles group much like our Mayor’s Office on Media – says that for the first time ever, over the past year more dramatic pilots were filmed in New York compared to Los Angeles.
In the free report – which you can access here – the group noted that 24 drama pilots were filmed in New York, with Los Angeles notching 19. That number is 44 percent of all the pilots from the 2013-2014 development cycle, the first time that LA’s share has dropped below 50 percent. Film L.A.’s president Paul Audley said in a press release available with the report that this decline for LA production was due to the fact that “California’s current incentive program makes it hard to attract and retain new pilots and TV series.”
In the 2009-2010 production cycle, New York didn’t have a single one of these most lucrative shows. It’s reported the in most recent cycle, New York had 12 network dramatic pilots.
