Tom Precious of The Buffalo News writes that this past Wednesday Gov. Cuomo vetoed a bill that he criticized as lessening the tax credit enacted seven months ago that specifically expanded the credit for productions shooting upstate.
In the article, Precious goes on to say that the bill would have expanded the generous tax abatement given to struggling upstate communities by allowing counties close to New York City to also get that tax break. Cuomo said that the 14 counties near the city don’t need that added amount since they don’t lag as far behind the 40 counties upstate still mired in a sluggish economy.
The governor and law makers opposed to the new bill feared that it would hinder upstate gains since production companies might instead choose to stay closer to New York City.
