At our January In Person event, Dave Satin offered his viewpoint on how the digital revolution in production created his job, and what it means for the future of production. Today’s top digital camera systems from Arri, Red, Sony and others demands knowledge and attention to crucial technical details to ensure that a DP’s vision gets from set to screen with a minimum of problems.
While he has worked on features and TV series as a DIT (digital imaging technician) in IATSE local 600, Satin also has decades of experiences in post production working for top post houses and broadcasters in New York City.
In this exclusive two part series, we spoke with Satin to gain more details on what goes into a DIT’s job, what a DP expects of a DIT, what he includes in his Mac based un-compressed recording system that he takes on set, and more.
