If you don’t know, the Post New York Alliance (PNYA) is a unique group with members that include both individuals involved in post production as well as the top post facilities in and around New York. The group is gearing up to become a real force in helping to direct the fast-growing editing and visual effects industries in town.
After all, PNYA, a group of some 50 post facilities (including editorial houses and vfx shops) was instrumental in pushing through the 40% tax abatement given to productions which agree to post in town. The effect of this tax break went into effect last year for the first time. The effect on the job growth in the industry has been electric.
The membership group now meets on a bimonthly basis, where some 60 folks turn up to talk about current and anticipated jobs either in specific facilities or that have the potential to come to town. You can find info on when the next P.I.G. (Post Intelligence Gathering) session will be held on the group’s web site.
PNYA has also begun to offer a series of seminars tackling some of the relevant concerns of production today. The first evening session – The Assistant Editor & the Digital Image Technician- kicked off recently at Light Iron’s congenial facility on Broadway. if you’d like to catch up on just what goes on between this newly crucial position of a DIT and the rest of post production, you’ll want to listen in on this hour-long session, posted here on Vimeo.
