Does Sony have something to worry about? The company is on a run with new, lower cost 4K camcorders and still/video cameras after all.
Red Digital Cinema President Jarred Land said its new 4K-capable RED Raven has a “bit of a chip on its shoulder” and was “ready to take on the entire sub-$10k market.” A good start is the light-weight (3.5lbs) “brain,” which runs under $6K after all. Well, more like $9,750 when you figure in storage, battery and an LCD screen according to RED.
One reason RED’s new Raven will entice: it delivers RedCode (R3D) RAW output, while the Canon EF mount offers access to a huge world of lenses. According to RED, APS-C / S35 lenses should cover the sensor, as it is not quite as large as Academy 35mm and APS-C dimensions. That minimal weight makes it a good choice for handheld gimbals, drones, jibs and cranes, says the company. Want more? Visit the RED Raven page here.
