AICE members are responsible for editing the great majority of all network television commercials shown in the U.S. and Canada. But once a year they gather to have a big celebration; that’s where their peers acknowledge top editors’ best work.
Now, the nominations for those May 14th awards are in. And even though the not-for-profit organization has chapters in Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, San Francisco and Toronto, two editors from one company top the list while their company didn’t do too bad as a whole either.
Those editors? Editors Damion Clayton and Biff Butler of Santa Monica-based Rock Paper Scissors, with each earning four nominations. Add up the nominations of the other editors at RPS and the total comes to 12 in that one shop. The awards are in the Alternative Media category, which includes Over :90, Fashion/Beauty, Montage, Music Video, Storytelling, Best of Los Angeles and Best of New York.
Entries from Cutters Studios did well too, with editors and artists earning nine Finalist nominations in such categories as Design for Flavor (Cutters Studios’ design arm) as well as in Dialogue / Monologue / Spoken Word, Online Campaign, Spec Spot, Under 50K, Best of Chicago and Best of Detroit.
Who else? Entries from The Mill tallied eight nominations, with the bulk of those coming in the Color Grading and Visual Effects categories, which The Mill swept. Two more nominations were earned in the Design category.
Other AICE companies whose artists and editors earned multiple Finalist nominations include Arcade Edit, which earned six nominations in categories for Comedy, Dialogue / Monologue / Spoken Word, Music Video, Online Campaign, Public Service and Spec Spot; Beast, which earned five nominations in the Alternative Media – :90 and Under, Alternative Media – :90 and Over, Comedy, Regional Campaign and Spec Spot categories; and Relish, which earned four total nominations in the categories of Alternative Media – :90 and Under, Public Service, Storytelling and Best of Toronto.
A number of AICE companies saw work from their editors and artists collect three total Finalist nominations. The companies include 3008, Big Sky, Cut + Run, Edit Bar, Final Cut, Married to Giants and Misfit.
Finalists in the AICE Awards’ new Original Music category went to work entered by Earhole Studios for Dodge, Music Dealers for Airbnb and Pollen Music Group for Google.
